A Story of Resilience and Discrimination: The Fight for Namukisa Sarah’s Rights
By Freedom Hive Uganda | June 2025
Freedom Hive Uganda Joins the Frontline
Freedom Hive Uganda swiftly launched a justice campaign to:
- Amplified Sarah’s story through social media, press releases, and public outreach.
- Provided legal support by partnering with the Uganda Law Society and human rights bodies.
- Engaged institutional stakeholders—Ministry of Education, Equal Opportunities Commission, and women’s rights groups—to apply pressure for a swift remedy.
- Mobilized public demand for Sarah to be allowed to sit her exams, free from stigma and discrimination.
Victory at Hand
Thanks to our joint efforts, an interim court order was secured, allowing Namukisa Sarah to sit for her final exams. She is scheduled to complete them on 26 June 2025. This marks a significant victory against institutional injustice and sends a strong signal that no woman should be denied education because of pregnancy.
What’s Next
While this interim order is an important win, our work continues. Freedom Hive Uganda demands:
- Formal reinstatement of Sarah’s enrolment.
- Completion of her degree without further obstruction.
- Clean-up of discriminatory policies—like Regulation No. 13 that penalize pregnant students.
A Call to Action
We urge:
- @Educ_SportsUg, Equal Opportunities Commission, human rights organizations, and educational institutions to ensure this interim order is implemented and used as a catalyst for systemic reform.
- The public to support Sarah’s right to education through advocacy, sharing her story, and holding institutions to account.
Final Thoughts
Namukisa Sarah’s resilience in the face of discrimination brings hope for broader change. Together with legal action, public pressure, and principled advocacy we can build an education system that empowers women, respects the Constitution, and upholds the dignity of all.
Freedom Hive Uganda remains committed to justice for Sarah and all pregnant students facing discrimination. Join us in ensuring that motherhood and education never have to be mutually exclusive.
