SAVE LAKE VICTORIA CAMPAIGN

A disturbing scene unfolded on the shores of Lake Victoria, as its waters mysteriously turned green, sparking widespread concern. Environmental and climate activist Alex Twikirize took it upon himself to investigate the cause, visiting the lake and venturing as far as Namalusu Island to get to the bottom of the issue.

Upon inspection, Twikirize discovered that the green hue and putrid smell were a direct result of toxic waste from surrounding factories. The acidic waste, carelessly dumped into the lake, has had a devastating impact on the ecosystem. However, the perpetrators, operating with impunity, euphemistically refer to this ecological disaster as “mubiru”.

This environmental catastrophe is not an isolated incident, but rather a symptom of a larger problem. Government officials and businessmen have been allowing the encroachment of lake shores, sacrificing the health of the lake and its inhabitants for personal gain. Luxury homes, apartments, and beaches have sprouted up along the shoreline, further exacerbating the degradation of this vital ecosystem.

The consequences of such reckless actions are far-reaching, threatening not only the environment but also the livelihoods of communities dependent on the lake. It’s imperative that those responsible are held accountable and that immediate action is taken to mitigate the damage and prevent further destruction. The people of Uganda deserve a healthy and thriving Lake Victoria, not a toxic dumping ground for industrial waste.
