Kigogwa Fuel Tanker explosion: Who is accountable?
Freedom Hive Uganda took the initiative of reaching out to the affected communities/families to see how the fuel tanker affected them and how they can be compensated by the authorities and those responsible. Mama Juma tells the story of how her business, friends and siblings perished in the fire on her watch. She tells this story while tearing because of the too much pain. The holes in these buildings weren’t made by police, they were made by the victims’ families to save their people but found them already burnt! The residential houses around this place were also burn leaving many dead and others got away with big wounds, they are still fighting for their lives though many of them die everyday. Survivors say that the government is only reporting 28 people dead but more than 50 people died on the spot. All the survivors our team has interviewed including doctors from Bombo hospitals say more than 50 people died on spot and people continue to die everyday. The doctor (names withheld) said that very night of the fire they admitted 150 fire patients at Bombo hospital only. Remember there are those in Kiruddu and Mulago. Now the question is why is the government hiding the number of the dead? And what is the number of those dying everyday because we found funeral cars at the scene delivering dead bodies to their families and are the victims’ families gonna get justice? Who’s going to take care of the wives and kids left behind? WHO’S ACCOUNTABLE?
