Freedom Hive Uganda Recognized at EU Human Rights Defenders Award Ceremony
Kampala, Uganda – May 15, 2025
Today, Freedom Hive Uganda had the honor of attending the prestigious European Union Human Rights Defenders Award ceremony, held at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador in Kololo. The annual event, hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Uganda celebrates outstanding individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication in the defense of human rights.
Among the three human rights defenders recognized this year was Norah Kobusingye, Co-Executive Director of Freedom Hive Uganda. Her recognition is a testament to the organization’s tireless efforts in promoting justice, equality, and the protection of fundamental freedoms in Uganda.
Despite being a relatively young organization, Freedom Hive Uganda has emerged as a significant force in the human rights space. Through grassroots mobilization, advocacy, and community engagement, the organization continues to amplify the voices of marginalized groups and push for systemic reforms that uphold human dignity.
The award ceremony also saw the well-deserved victory of Aloikin Praise Opoloje, who was honored as the 2025 Human Rights Defender of the Year. Freedom Hive Uganda extends heartfelt congratulations to Aloikin for this remarkable achievement.
“We are deeply inspired by this recognition,” said Norah Kobusingye. “It strengthens our resolve to continue advocating for inclusive and equal rights for all Ugandans, especially those whose voices often go unheard.”
As the struggle for human rights continues across the country, Freedom Hive Uganda remains committed to building a just and equitable society one where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can live with dignity and freedom.
